Paddington’s Cousin

The following has nothing to do with reading– but I was so charmed by my walk to work this morning, I had to make it known. Here’s what I love about living in cities of significant size: you may find yourself in rush-hour crowds hoofing it behind a couple of union dudes who’re wheeling a stuffed black bear, up on its hind legs and poised for attack, down the street. And everyone who comes towards them can’t help but look up from under a thick hood or lift a face out of shoulders hunched against the cold and break out in a smile, which the two good-natured guides are quick to return.

No idea what this wheeled wonder was for, or where the fierce beast was headed– but I’m taking it as a sign of oddly merry things ahead.
